THE CALL TO CHANGE IN THE NIGERIAN STUDENT UNIONISM - Mariam Ashade
When you build the youth, you build the nation. The youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, They are the ones to build this nation, our country.
One of the centre point for prudent youthfulness is the STUDENT UNIONISM which targets bringing students of higher learning to a collective voice towards the achievement of common goals. This has become the formidable medium for student leadership capacity building and development. Let me also say that it serves as the intermediary between school management and the students.
If we look into our '' student union " today, it is not as Strong as the way it should be, because students have lost trust and interest at result of bad leadership in the Union. the union is fallen apart due to rising sentiments, self interest from the students, also people that are willing to serve are not given the chance to do it.
Students have been deprive of their rights so many times because the Union officials would rather protect the interest of the management against that of the common students so as to keep their peace on seat.
I would like to open wide an opinion page here. Lets talk on a way out. Its time to reform the Student Union in campuses for better.
